Teardrop was originally released by Massive Attack as a single on 27 April 1998 and was featured on the excellent album ‘Mezzanine’. This reinterpreted version creates a new slant on this classic track by using electric guitar to replace the vocal melody. It loosely follows the original and features some new additions. To say I had high expectations for this film is an understatement and it mostly did deliver on its promise to be a dark and unnerving journey into paranoia and fear from the point of view of Curtis, a quiet family man experiencing frightening dreams motivating him to take serious measures to protect his family whilst his friends and family watch with concern. It’s worth seeing this film for the subtle-yet-disturbing factor – don’t expect traditional frights as thankfully, it is not about that. Expect unnerving, expect forboding and expect a great performance from Michael Shannon.

The Secret In Their Eyes

It’s not very often that a film straddles the thriller / romance genres without descending into predictable dross. In the case of “The Secret In Their Eyes” [otherwise known as "El Secreto de Sus Ojos"], Argentinian director Juan José Campanella knows how to present a story with a maturity and depth not seen all that often. The main plot follows Benjamin Esposito, a retired Argentinian federal justice agent, writing a novel about a past case that was never fully resolved. The more he writes regarding his experiences the more he wants to revisit the real life case.
